Tips to Survive night shifts

It had been three years since I have joined a reputed Social Media company . I had to  do Night shifts regularly. In the beginning, I faced a little bit of difficulty, but later I developed and found some tricks which helped me to survive these shifts without feeling sleepy and having health hazards.
I want to share the same with you all so that you can get benefited and can implement the same according to your convenience.
  1. Use of www.dailyalarms.com-  this could sound banal, but putting many alarms every hour can help a lot. When I set these, it also reminds me of SLA and to check for wrongly queued messages. So, it can help you in staying awake and maintaining the quality control.
  2. Sleep before the shift starts- Sleeping a little before night shift starts helps a lot as the body gets proper rest.
  3. Munching food – An easy access to food items keeps your metabolism and brain active and you wouldn't feel sleepy.
  4. Coffee- Sipping coffee has proven to be one of the best ways to make a person night hawk.
  5. Water- Drink plenty of water so that you need to go to loo at regular intervals. It surely helps in avoiding sleep.
  6. Sleep as soon as your shift ends- Don’t go anywhere or start listening to music. Stick to a strict routine of hitting the sack as soon as your shift ends
  7. Invest in eye mask and earplugs- It will help you to get sound sleep during daytime. Also get the cut out curtains if you can.
  8. Have breakfast before you hit the sack- This is a very healthy habit to have breakfast soon after the night shift ends in the morning.
  9. Power naps- Take a scheduled power nap between your shifts. You can put an alarm on dailyalams.com and ask your colleague to wake you up on time.
  10. Keep your cell phone and laptop at loud mode- It is human nature to feel sleepy, So your colleagues or leads can reach out to you easily in case you have fallen asleep
  11. Exercise- Any kind of physical activity helps a lot during night shift. In between your shift, take a small break, walk and stretch yourself.
  12. Take a shower with lukewarm water- Taking a shower with lukewarm water before your shift starts help a lot. People who are allergic to cold or have sinus problems should avoid it.
  13. Good light- Keep your room full of light. Our body feels sleepy when there is dark.
  14. Stick to a schedule- Make a proper routine for your night shift and follow it strictly. Never keep yourself awake soon after the night shift. It can only cause damage to your body.
